Title:Alcatraz versus the Evil Librarians
Author: Brendan Sanderson
Review: This book is about thirteen year old boy, Alcatraz. He has the power to break anything and everything he touches. He got a bag of magical sand and looses it right away by a librarian who will make special glasses used to take over the world by giving misinformation. Alcatraz must get it back before the make the sand into glasses, and the only problem is that to get them he must go to THE LIBRARY!!!!!! The book sometimes hits the reader emotional which is a good way to keep the reader reading. However, the book could be improved if the plot were stronger. The book has quite a lot of symbolism which is a good technique that readers can learn from. Otherwise this is a great book, both for school and for fun. This book is a piece that everyone should try even if it does not interest you in the very beginning. It has parts which can be learned from everyone. Fighting for what you believe in is something everyone does. This book just happens to portray that in an enjoyable manner.

Title: Bystander
Author: James Preller
Review: The book tells a story about a boy named Eric Hayes who moves to a new town not knowing whose mean or nice. He meets a cool guy named Griffin who Eric didn’t know was a bully, and becomes friends with him. Eric finds himself being a bully and stops being friends with Griffin, but that was the biggest mistake of his life. Now Eric is the target. The book was filled with details making it easy to imagine. The book shows the truth of the cruel world, and that is important because not everyone notices that there being bullied or even if they are bullies themselves. It was very strong and powerful, and I’m moving from New Jersey, so now I can notice if I’m being bullied. I can also know how to stop it. Yes, I would recommend this book to others. It has a great moral “Treat people the way you want to be treated”. That’s really important. The book might sound boring to you, but you can’t judge a book by it’s cover, so go ahead and read it yourself.

Title: Peace, Lomotion
Author: Jacqueline Woolson
Review: The theme of the book is a story in letters. A boy nicknamed Locomotion misses his sister who was adopted before him. Because they are separated, Locomotion writes about his day to his little sister with a story, if you read in-between the lines. The theme was very different than most other books. The book trailed off a lot of times making it confusing to see the main part. Howevever it did touch my heart multiple times like when his sister didn’t show up for his birthday because the mother had other plans. The book also used double negatives making it confusing like “ain’t no house of yours.” and I didn’t like the author’s language. Since it was unbelievably hard to follow, I do not recommend this book anyone who likes easy follow, straight up, no detail books. But if you like hard books and want something to touch your heart it might be the book for you. For people like me, it might be annoying for all of the double negatives, and believe me there are a lot. All readers and all books are different so choose carefully.

Title:Jolted
Author: Arthur Slade
Review: The book mainly shows the dangers of some people like Newton Starker, who has to avoid any sign of lightning. He has a bad family trait. Everyone in the long line of The Starker’s has died because of lightning. Yet, Newton does dangerous things like going on a survival trip during prime lightning time. This book was very good because I like books that are adventurous. But, I did not like how the survival school made the kids cook with dead animals. Although, if it weren’t for that class Newton wouldn’t of met an adorable pig that helped Newton find water, food, and the shelter to keep him alive during the survival trip.I really enjoyed this book that I will continue reading Mr. Slade’s work. I would most definitely recommend this book because it was exciting, adventurous, and you would never know what would come next. It had a lot of different parts that forced me to keep on reading. The book was like a roller coaster so you don’t see the ups, the downs, and the loop the loops coming. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes having that feeling.

Title:Scat
Author: Carl Hiassen
Review: Scat is about an animal lover named Nick. His wacky Science teacher Mrs Starch has gone missing in a forest after a wild fire…or was it? A detective says it was a controlled fire. A kid from school called “Smoke” is the blame because he has gone to juvi from setting fire to a build board. The only thing is that it wasn’t him. The book was surprising. In the beginning even I thought Smoke was guilty, but I was wrong. I was on the right track again after the next couple of chapters, but I was doubtful. It had so many details, that I even thought I was right next to nick. I had a lot of fun reading it and I hope you do too. I would say that anyone would love it no matter if you hate animals or love them. It has parts that anyone would like. I don’t think anyone has a reason for hating this book. If you don’t agree, I dare you to go to the library right now and read it. I’m sure you’ll love it.

Title:Surf Mules
Author: G. Neri
Review: The theme of this book is responsibilities. We all have them, some are large some are small. This book is about two surfers, fresh from high school taking on a job that is potentially dangerous. They must carry pot across country on a three-day trip to gain the money needed for college. That is a large responsibility for two kids. The book sometimes loses the interest of the reader. At some points, the reader is engaged in total suspense. Then there are the times when the reader feels compelled to just drop the book and maybe, just maybe, come back to finish. There are also some really emotional parts as well, like how Logan loses two of his best friends in one summer. I would recommend this book because a lot of students are involved in dilemmas like the main characters in this book. It is a nice story that might spark interest to a lot of people. Also, the language used is very modern. It’s an interesting novel that describes the life of two ordinary teenagers.

Title: Marvelous Effect
Author: Troy Cle
Review: This book has a theme of responsibility. The main character is burdened with the role of saving the world from total destruction. At first, he had looking after his friends and family. Then one day, he fell unconscious for three months and became one of “Olivion’s favorites.” Now he must save the world from the evil eNoli’s mind games. That is a ton of responsibility. This book has a lot of action which makes it a fun read. However, to make the book a little better for the audience is a better word choice to stimulate the mind for a smarter education. Otherwise, the book has an interesting plot, and the book’s suspense makes the reader want to continue the series. This book is not a novel anyone should use as a literary reference, but if you’re just reading for fun it’s a nice read. There are some things that are flat-out hilarious, and parts that make you want to scream at the character to be smart and not betray his friend. However, writing about make-believe space aliens in your school essays may not be the best decision.

Title: Ship Breaker
Author: Paolo Bacigalupi
Review: This book is about adventure. Practically all his life, Nailer lived in poverty. But throughout the book, anyone can tell that his life was more of an adventure, through saving his love to suffering his father’s wrath. He always had to make quota on copper findings in ships, and one day, when a magnificent clipper washes ashore, he has to decide whether to spare this dying girl’s life or take everything aboard the ship for money. His decision leads him to another adventure that could change his life. In the beginning, the book was somewhat boring. The reader just wants to stop reading it and move on. It needs a better opening, something to hook the reader and keep them going past the first page or two. However, this book is very interesting as you read on. This book is great and should be read. It is great for allusions and other literary references. And, it is fun to read. This is a book that should be next on your list.

Title: One Crazy Summer
Author: Rita Williams-Garcia
Review: The theme of this book is learning to accept others. Delphine and her two younger sisters fly across the country to meet the mother who left them when they were just babies. However, Cecile, their mother, is not willing to care for them, so Delphine and her little sisters must learn to adapt to this new lifestyle. At first they all would rather be in another place, but in the end they all love each other, like a family should. At first, the book seemed like it belonged to someone in the 5th or 6th grade. After awhile, it turned out that, although the language seemed childish and the style seemed immature, the plot was what really mattered. The reader grows pitiful towards the three young kids. Also, everyone can relate to the story one ay or the other. Those of you who enjoy a quick and easy read, this is the book for you. But, if you prefer a harder challenge, the book probably won’t be first on your list. The text is simple and understandable. However, this book is very short and doesn’t offer a larger plot.

Title: Maze Runner
Author: James Dashner
Review: The theme of the novel is that although you may not do it right on the first encounter, try again. When Thomas wakes up in an old elevator that takes him to “the Glades,” he finds that he has no memory of anything that happened before this moment. All he knows is that he must become “maze runner” and hopefully find the way out of this terrifying place. The runners can never find the exit so all they can do is map out the maze. They keep trying and trying until, one day, a girl comes for the first time with a message. In the end they find the exit. This book seemed tedious at some points. But, there were points where the book held the reader in, breathless. The book kept me wanting more, even onto the next few chapters of the next book, which was fortunately found in the back of my book. The book is a nice read, especially at the beach. This book is great for everyone to read. The book isn’t too long, and the plot is very interesting and original. This book is not a book for literary reference, like allusions. However, this is great to read in your spare time.

Title: Catching Fire
Author: Suzanne Collins
Review: This book is about decisions. Katniss must decide between her pretend lover or the guy who she spent all her life in poverty with. There is also the decision to rile up the districts or cool them down. Even though she just escapes the clutches of the game the year before, she must go into them again, which brings her even closer to her pretend lover whom she must marry. This book made me want to read more than ever. The suspense was plentiful and even with the first book, it made me want to continue the whole series. The book is original and addictive. The book never left my hands. This book is a must-read. There’s a little bit for everyone in it. I recommend that you begi. With the first book book if you have not already though. The book is most likely something you would read for fun more than a school project.

Title:Please Stop Laughing at Me
Author: Jodee Blanco
Review: This book is about school bullying. Jodee Blanco has lived her whole life in bullying. All she has ever done to provoke that was stand up for the inferiors. She would find something wrong with what other kids were doing and fix it. The other children resented her for it, so she became the target. Even her high school crush hates her enough to be In the “in-crowd.” This book strikes your heart and makes you question “why?” the book seemed tedious at points but all around good. It helps the reader think twice about what they do before they do it. This is a great tool to keep children from bullying. This is a great story everyone can relate too. It may even reduce the number of school bullying. This is definitely a book that is enjoyable yet educational at the same time. Reading about someone’s life is the best way to connect.

Title:Torment
Author: Lauren Kate
Review: This book is about separation and curiosities. In the second book, Luce is faced separation from her love, Daniel. However, she must stay in hiding so that she is not killed by Outcasts or other creatures ready to kill her. She is curious to find out whether Daniel truly loves her and what outcasts are like. The book is strong in that Kate keeps the reader wanting more. She also makes the reader go through many questions, forcing the reader to make predictions. However, the reader feels a little bored every now and then. But, she adds suspense to keep the reader going. This is a must read if you have already read the first book. Kate makes it so that it is irresistible to stop reading and it is just as good as the first. Torment is a great book to read anywhere. It was very enjoyable and everyone should read it.

Title: Hope Was Here
Author: Joan Bauer
Review: The theme of this novel is fighting for what you believe in. All throughout the book, Hope helps her friends, like when G.T. decided to follow his dreams of becoming a mayor. However, the current mayor does not wish to give up his role to a man who may not live through the next year. Hope and her friends, although a little broken from the mayor’s obstacles, continue to fight for G.T.’s right to be whatever he wants to be.

Title: Fallen
Author: Lauren Kate
Review: This book is about forbidden love. Luce is sent to a reform school due to something she wasn’t sure she did. When she goes there, she meets two guys. One draws her to him than anything else, but he makes it his first priority to steer clear of her. She knows she did nothing to provoke this sudden hatred. In the end she figures out that the man she loves along with many of her friends are angels and that every time he touched, kissed, talked to her she combusted and reincarnated. But now, all of that has changed. This book was beyond amazing. It is hard for a girl to not love every minute of it. I read every single book in the series and anxious for the next book to come out next December. This is a book that is strong and passionate. This is a must-read. This is one of those books that if you liked the Twilight Saga you will love the Fallen series. This is the perfect book to read in your spare time or even on the beach. Fallen should be on your next list of books to read.

Title: Mockingjay
Author: Suzanne Collins
Review: This book was about the ending of the hunger games trilogy. Katniss is now at the district 13, users of nuclear weapons. Katniss becomes an idol for the coming war, as she defends as many people as she can. Soon the rebellion reaches the capitol. However, katniss chooses peetah or gale. This is a fast paced book with plenty of action and funny twists and turns. For instance, a psycho cat attacking a light in the most strict place in the country is slightly amusing.

Title: Catching Fire
Author: Suzanne Collins
Review: This book’s theme is light vs. darkness. The capitol is taking revenge against katniss everdeen by forcing her to reappear in the seventy-fifth hunger games. Katniss survives showing determination and that she will not abide by the capitol’s rules. In the end, katniss is saved by her mentor in a hovercraft, and a war between the capitol and the districts erupts. A powerful strength in this book is the authors ability to continuously surprise the reader with plot twists. Throughout the book, you never know what to expect from katniss and her companion peeta. However, the only weakness was creativity taken too far. Killer monkeys are a bit psychotic. This book is great for all teens because it is adventurous as well as fun. Also, there is some advanced vocabulary thrown in, but it is easy to follow. In addition, cliffhangers are great because you to want to read chapter after chapter. Overall, this is a great book.

Title:Hunger Games
Author: Suzanne Collins
Review: This book is about katniss everdeen, a young girl who will do anything to protect her friends and family. The theme, darkness and light, is shown through the evil of the capitol in comparison to the light of the districts. The capitol forces 2 kids from each district to be chosen to participate in a almost certain death. This has been going on for nearly 75 years. (this is the 74th year) When Katniss’s younger sister is chosen for this fate, katniss volunteers for this unfortunate fate. Now its katniss vs the capitol and their wicked ways. The hunger games strength lies in its simplicity to understand. In addition to this simplicity, the emotionally charged words throughout the novel add to the depth of the book. However, one of the only weaknesses in this book is that after leaving district 12, (katniss’s district) we no longer hear anything from the district again. If the author changed point of view once in awhile, the book would have been stronger. This book would be great for others because of powerful vocabulary, beautiful paragraphs, and figurative language that causes a need to read on. This book will cause any devoted reader to laugh and possibly cry. As for any non-devoted readers, this book will most likely make you laugh, but not shed a single tear. ALL TEENS SHOULD TRY THE HUNGER GAMES.

Title: Ender’s Game
Author: Orson Scott
Review: This science fiction novel is about a young boy named ender who is a military genius. A theme is Ender vs. Ender because because he is never sure what he is doing is right. This theme is fluent throughout the book, ranging through massive headaches to special programs to his beloved sister. Never sure of himself, he takes charge and does his duty. This book exhibits a great plot, although more detail would be beneficiary. In addition, the author lacks a powerful closing leaving a sour state of mind at the end of the novel. However the plot itself partially makes up for this weakness. Overall, the the greatest strength of this book is the ingenious creativity spread throughout the book, such as a rotating space station for young cadets and a military base hidden within a dead planet. this book is a great science fiction novel which should be read by those who enjoy this genre. In my opinion, everyone who enjoys any kind of fiction should read this book out of curiosity. As stated before this novel contains a thrilling plot, however, my sister hated this book and was disappointed that I recommended this book to her. This book is more for guys who enjoy fiction novels.

Title:The Fellowship of the Rings
Author: JRR Tolkien

Review: This classic is about Frodo Baggins who inherits the ring of power. This classic is about chaos vs. order. The evil lord Sauron wishes for his ring again in order to rule the world. Now it is up to Frodo to destroy the ring in order to save the world. The first part of the trilogy comes after THE HOBBIT. One of many strengths in this book is the ingenious detail threaded throughout Mr. Tolkien’s work of art. Furthermore, the vivid detail supplies a strong idea of all of Frodo’s emotions and the emotions of all other characters. However, creativity is this authors greatest weapon: elves, dwarves, and hobbits alike. Overall, In my own eyes, there are no flaws visible. This book is great for all readers. However, this is an extremely advanced book. Unfortunately, this is not a book for slow or weak readers. For any moderate or adept readers, this classic fiction novel is one of the best. READ IT.

Title: Where She Went
Author: Gayle Forman
Review: In the sequel to “If I Stay” we get to experience Adam’s point of view three years after Mia recovers from the car crash that killed her parents. Adam hasn’t seen Mia since she left for college those three years ago. He has become incredibly famous as the guitar player in his band and has a famous girlfriend. Adam isn’t happy though and is hurt from the way Mia ended things with him. On one by-chance night he happens to be where Mia is preforming. They spend the night exploring Mia’s New York and tying strings up. The ending to “Where She Went” was perfect and I think that this sequel is even better than the first. I was hesitant at first with the book being in Adam’s point of view but it ended up being just as interesting as Mia’s. Even though at times, like when you were reading Adam’s memories, it was a little slow, the overall book definitely earned a five. I loved it!

Title: Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix
Author: JK Rawling
Review: In the fifth installment of the Harry Potter series times turn dark. Voldemort is back and its a revolutionary. Dumbledore is ignoring Harry and is forced to leave the school. Umbridge arrives from the Ministry of Magic to make sure Hogwarts doesn’t tell the kids Voldemort is back. Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Neville, and Luna break into the ministry. Things really go south from there. I love the Harry Potter series but out of all seven, number five is low on the totem pole for me. Being 870 pages there has to be enough information to keep your attention the whole time. Sometimes my attention started to drift. Five is when the series starts to become very sad too. Though I love how all the main characters are developing, and the first ten chapters were probably one of the best parts of all of the books.

Title: The Graveyard Book
Author: Neil Gaiman
Review: Nobody Owen grew up in a graveyard full of dead people. Afer a man in the middle of the night comes in and slaughters is family he escapes unnoticed. He found a safe and cozy place in the graveyard and grew up among the dead and the living. Good horror book.

Title: The 100-year old Secret
Author: Tracy Barrett
Review: This was a great mystery book. I felt like I was inside the book with Xena and Xander helping them solve the mystery nigel bathson’s missing painting “girl in a purple hat”. Xena and Xander inherit not only the notebook that belonged to their grandfather Sherlock Holmes but also his talent. Great adventure book.

Title: The Secret of Zoom
Author: Lynne Jonell
Review: Christina is never allowed to leave the grounds on which her home stands, a protective measure of her father’s doing after her mother was killed in an explosion. Then a chance meeting with Taft, an orphan who picks up garbage, causes her to once again look for the secret tunnel entrance. okay, not my type of book.

Title: Billy Bones
Author: Christopher Lincoln
Review: Billy Bones lives with his family, the skeletons in the closet in the Biglum mansion. For the most part they are a happy family. Children who see the cover will want to read the story because of the skeleton on the cover, but the tale here is more of a myetery than a ghost story. Good ghost book

Title: The Mailbox
Author: Audrey Shafer
Review: Gabe has lived with his uncle Vernon for about 3 years, and he is a shy boy, bruised by years in the foster care system and the damage Vietnam war vet have become inextricably tied to each other. Then one day Gabe comes one day and finds savior dead on the floor.Frightened and alone, the boy soon finds a rescuer in a mysterious friend who takes the body, leaves notes in the mailbox, along with advice and a canine protector. Awesome book!

Title: Barnaby Grimee: Legion of the Dead
Author: Paul Stewart
Review: Barnaby Grimes is a tick-tock lad delivering messages and running errands all over the city day ans night. Gangland funerals and diving expeditions are hazarddous enough but when graveyards begin to give up their dead, this tick-tock lad is faced with the deadliest challenge yet. If you are ready for adventures this is a great book to read.

Title: The Revealers
Author: Doug Wilhelm
Review: Russell, Elliot, and Catalina are three, 7th graders who, in the highly structured hierarchy of middle school, are rock bottom. They embark on a course of action to understand why some people choose to take advantage of others and to come up with a way to stop the bullying once and for all. Good Book!

Title: Bystander
Author: James Preller
Review: Griffin takes a liking to Eric, and though Eric sees something dark in Griffin, Eric hangs out with him and his gang and tries to deny what he is seeing.Things take a bad turn and Eric becomes Griffins victim. Good book!

Title: Dragon Keeper
Author: Carole Wilkinson
Review: The story centers on a girl in 141BC who has grown up as a slave of the Chinese Emperor’s Dragon Keeper. She has been a slave her whole life, ad does not know what her name is, or who her parents are. “I love this book because it has to do with dragons.

Title: Skin
Author: Rick Jasper
Review: Nicks face is breaking out, as his face worsens, a neighbor sends over a priest. The priest remembers a teenager who had a similar attack.Nicks bad skin is the least of his problems. His bones feel like living ice. A strange scratchessems to be some sort of ancient code. This book was so creepy.

Title: Shadow of a Bull
Author: Maia Wojciechowska
Review: This is a story about a boy named Manolo who had a father who was a famous bullfighter. But, sadly, Monalo’s father died in a bullfighting accident. So, the people in the city automatically thought that Moanolo would take the place of him. But there was a problem… Manolo was afraid of bulls. Throughout the story, he tries to become brave and conquer his fear of bulls. It was a good book because it tells about his trial and errors of him becoming brave.

Title: Catherine, Called Birdy
Author: Karen Cushman
Review: This book is about a girl named Catherine who starts out as a snobby bratt and turns into a noble lady. Her parents are trying to get her to marry men that she absolutely hates. Then one day someone recommends to her that she should start journaling to change her ways. The book itself is written as her journal. I did not like this book because it did not at all appeal to me.

Title: Luther
Author: Frederick Nohl
Review: This book is about Martin Luther. He was a man who became a monk and studied the Bible. As he studied It, he found a total of 95 things that the Roman Catholic Church was doing wrong. As the book goes on, it tells about the struggles that he went through to get his point across to the world. it wasn’t the best book ever but it still had a lot of interesting facts.

Title: Making Brothers and Sisters Best Friends: How to Fight the GOOD Fight at Home
Author: Sarah, Steve, and Grace Mally
Review: This book is about 2 sisters and 1 brother who talk about how to further make your relationship between sisters and brothers tighter. They give tons of examples of problems they’ve had and they tell who is wrong and how to change it. It’s great for families that are struggling with each other or anyone who wants to get along better. The book was good because it talked to my family personally and had a bunch of funny stories.

Title: Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations
Author: Alex and Bret Harris
Review:This book explains the low expectations that the world has about teens today and what you should do to change that by doing challenging things. It has awesome stories about teens across the globe that are rebelling against teens low expectations and making a difference in the world. It’s written by two teenage brothers. This book was good because I enjoyed all the stories that they had of teens doing seemingly impossible things all around the world.

Title:Tales of Heroes and Angels
Author: Robert Tabor
Review: “This book is about stories of Heroes and Angels helping people and saving lives all around the world. There are stories that date back all the way to the 12th century and as recent as the 1960s. This book is great for people who are interested in angels and history. “ This book was awesome because of all the great stories it had about wars, airplane flights, sea travels, horses out west, churches, truck drivers, and even a tv network. Angel lovers must read this book.
